I was really looking forward to this deck, but what a disappointment. When it arrived, the packaging itself was really beautiful, but the cards were produced on the cheap. The card stock was so thin I worried about bending the cards while shuffling. In addition, the accompanying book was printed in a font so small that I had to haul out the magnifying glass to read it! Was this just to save a few extra pages being printed?

Wish I could give this a higher review – and if it’s reproduced using a higher quality card stock and a book that doesn’t cheap out on pages, I will definitely re-order. Sadly, it’s going back to Amazon today.

I love Dave McKean’s work, and this is beautiful. The book explaining how to read the Tarot and the cards come in a box, the cards come in a velvet pouch with gold lettering on it. Rachel Pollack’s detailed interpretation for every card is fantastically helpful, and she speaks also about the correlation with the images McKean has created for them, which are very intense and beautiful. As an object of beauty, I highly recommend them. And of course, if you like the Tarot and believe, they’re probably very good.

The foreword by Gaiman is brilliant.

Beautiful deck. But the print in the book is so ridiculously tiny, it requires a magnifying glass to read it. It’s like the fine print on products that would rather you didn’t read about their contents.

    Cheap production.

I’ve always admired Vertigo for their fabulous artwork (and storyboards). Out of the four decks I own, this one has easily become my favorite. The only constructive critisism I’d add is that the cards are very slippery and you could misplace one if you aren’t careful. They have to be handled with care, as they are much thinner than the typical deck.

I have never used tarot cards before, but the Vertigo set looked like it was a very unique spin on something that has been around for a while. Though the cards are a little weak and look like they’ve been punched out of a sheet, there are very redeeming qualities. The artwork is not what I had expected. I had thought that the cards would feature artwork that was taken from the various comic series of Vertigo and cleaned up and added to the cards. The cards actually feature completely original artwork that strikes me as a little abstract and very creative.

Aside from the quality of the cards, the tarot set seems like a good start for anyone interested in tarot.
