Articles or Tools of Witchcraft
In the practice of Witchcraft, there are tools or articles of witchcraft that are used in spells and ceremonies. Here is a description of some of these tools of witchcraft ...
The Athame A ceremonial sword or dagger. This is usually a double-edged dagger. And it is one of several magical tools used in traditional witchcraft and other pagan beliefs and religions like Wicca for various rituals. A black-handled knife called an "artham" appears in some versions of the Key of Solomon , a grimoire originating in the Middle Ages.
The dagger is mainly used for ritual and magical purposes to direct energy. If things such as herbs or cords need to be cut, another knife called a Boline - a white-handled knife - is used. An exception is with "kitchen witchcraft", which actively promotes the use of magic tools for mundane purposes to increase the witch's familiarity with them.
A dagger can be used in the demarcation of the ritual magic circle.
As a masculine principle, the Athame is often used in combination with the chalice, a feminine principle tool, evoking the act of procreation or as a symbol of universal creativity. This is a symbol of the great rite in the rituals of Wicca.
Some modern witchcraft traditions may prefer not to use iron blades, preferring other alternatives such as copper, bronze or wood. This is more common among the traditions that have a special fondness of the Sidhe, to whom iron is supposedly harmful. (The Sidhe are said to be a distinct race, quite separate from human beings.)

The Chalice In Wicca, a cup reflect the female principle, and is often used in combination with the Athame (black handle ceremonial knife) as the male principle. A chalice is also used in the Rite of small claims.
A chalice is a symbol of the water element, a feminine element representing intuition, gestation, mental capacity, and the subconscious. The Cup is also a symbol of the Goddess, the womb, and female reproductive organs. The chalice is sometimes interchangeable with the cauldron.

Wiccan Altar Bell Bells are like the voice of the Goddess. When you ring one, it brings the attention of the Divine to you. And your attention to the Divine.
A bell with a beautiful tone calls beautiful, healing energy to you. Bells can also be used to clear away energy. The end of a ritual is a good time for this. But if unwanted energy crops up during a ritual, you can use the bell to disperse it.
The intention is that the light tone of the altar bell will drive away negativity and keep out evil spirits. It is claimed that evil spirits can not tolerate the sound of a bell's clear, high tone.
Using an alter bell to call the goddess will ensure you are more protected during rituals, spells and ceremonies.
Altar Cloths In some neopagan religions like Wicca, an altar cloth is placed on the altar where magic is performed. Many altar cloths are decorated with pentagrams, a traditional symbol of Wicca.
Altar cloths prevent damage, dirt and grime from touching the altar. It is always best to keep your altar clean to appease the gods or goddesses that may be called upon in the rituals. A disorderly altar shows a lack of respect for the gods and goddesses, so be sure to clean the altar cloth frequently as well. Many altar cloths can be put in washing machines, whenever it's time to wash your clothes...
Altar Tiles The altar tile is also called a pentacle and is used on a Wiccan altar as a focal point for ritual work. It is commonly constructed of metal, wood, clay or stoneware. The tile itself is usually inscribed with the pentagram (five-pointed star) and sometimes with other symbols. The star represents the four elements of earth, air, fire, water and a fifth element of spirit, represented by the Goddess and God. The tile is placed with the tip of the spirit pointing upward to indicate that the spirit rules all the elements.
