Whatever path you choose in witchcraft, it is filled with problems (as in all paths). One of these challenges can occur early on - people will ask questions about your beliefs, and it is important to know how to talk about them, without turning them off ...
You may feel uncomfortable when other people discover your beliefs, no matter how far forward you have traveled in witchcraft.
You can even have people close to you that you know will not accept your beliefs.
The first thing you need to understand is this: There is nothing that says you have to share what is your inner path - your beliefs. You do not have to tell anyone if you do not want to. It's easy to keep it secret.
There are many people with different beliefs who never tell anyone what those beliefs are.
One's beliefs are very personal, and not necessarily for the ears of anyone else.
But if you feel like you want to tell the world, you're a witch (or if someone does discover that you are on the Wiccan path and confronts you), here are some guidelines to follow:
• It is better to wait until the other person wants to talk about it. Avoid bringing it up yourself.
• Know what those beliefs are first. Having a good understanding of your personal beliefs will center you and center others.
Be open to another's beliefs. Once you know where other people are coming from, find common ground between the two paths - focus on similarities. (Example: Christians believe in helping others, those who follow the Wiccan path do so as well - etc)
• It is best to prepare for this discussion in advance by making a list of the people in your life you can talk this over with. Together with their names, write down what their beliefs, the best you can, and note the things you say in your discussion with them.
• Do not try to change the view of anyone. You can not do this, especially if they are older. You are looking for them to accept you for what you are.
Note: I have not included any specific things you should say, word for word, because it's really important that you hear what people say, so you can practice how to say them. It's my job to make sure they can win the acceptance of your views, and reduce the risk of people hurting you.
