How do witch children listen to stories ?

Witch Girl answers:

Generally through the ears...

But we, who are children of The Goddess, hear stories through our hearts, as well. Look, listen, feel and think, everywhere around you are stories, messages and gifts.

What does a toad symbolize in fairytale stories?

You know how in every fairytale story witches turn children, kings, princes, etc into toads? Or how the princess kisses a toad and it turns into a prince? Is there some symbolic reference or historical significance behind this?

Witch Girl answers:

"Biological ugliness." We respond to toads with an "ick" even as young children. And yet, toads are small and easy to outrun, so while menacing, are usually not true threats (except poisonous toads).

We find, with the metaphor of toads, that the surface maybe ugly, but within is often a thing of beauty (the prince). It is a message to look beneath the surface of things. And story tellers like to use such literary tricks...

Trying to remember a children's witch story?

I'm trying to remember a title of a children's story about a witch who kidnaps children and turns them into food??? I don't remember many details about it... anyone have any idea or list of stories that's relevant to my description of the story? Although it's a children's story, the story is quite dark...???

Its not Hansel and Gretal. The witch literally turns kids into food... like the witch turns Jack into tuna.... something like that. I think the name of the witch may be Hecate...?

Maybe it's "Heckedy Peg" by Audrey Wood... Here's the synopsis...

"A mother saves her seven children from Heckedy Peg, a witch who has changed them into different kinds of food. When a mother goes to market, she leaves her seven children at home, warning them not to open the door to strangers. Unfortunately, the children are tricked into opening the door by Heckedy Peg, a horrible witch who turns them all into different types of food. Will the mother be able to rescue her children from the witch's curse before the witch eats them for dinner? Illustrated with oil paintings."

"This original story reads like a pure folktale. The poor mother of seven children, each named for a day of the week, goes off to market promising to return with individual gifts that each child has requested and admonishing them to lock the door to strangers and not to touch the fire. The gullible children are tricked into disobeying their mother by the witch, Heckedy Peg, who turns them all into various kinds of food. The mother can rescue her children only by guessing which child is the fish, the roast rib, the bread, etc."

Churches invovled in torture, murder of thousands of African children denounced as witches ....?

What do you think about this LA Times report?

"Nwanaokwo Edet was one of an increasing number of children in Africa accused of witchcraft by pastors and then tortured or killed, often by family members. Pastors were involved in half of 200 cases of "witch children" reviewed by the AP, and 13 churches were named in the case files.

Some of the churches involved are renegade local branches of international franchises. Their parishioners take literally the Biblical exhortation, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."

"It is an outrage what they are allowing to take place in the name of Christianity," said Gary Foxcroft, head of nonprofit Stepping Stones Nigeria."

The events you refer to hit the Western Media in November of 2009. Of course, it is barbaric. And such stupidity is continuing. UNICEF reported in June of 2010 that the accusations and punishment of children for "witchcraft" has actually increased in many African nations See: http://theweek.com/article/index/205188/africas-child-witch-hysteria

The Born Again Pentecostal movement appears to be a driving force behind this madness. This includes the use of videos that show special effects with children zooming over roofs, walking through fire and using enormous weapons to kill in the night. The special effects are cheap and nasty, but effective when shown to people who are struggling with an Aids/HIV epidemic, long term impoverishment and tribal and civil wars. People who are already scared to death... How easy it is to blame it all on "witchy children."

Any type of witch charges can be successful at moving a family out of town to get control of their property. It is a shallow land grab... and another example of another worldwide epidemic - The Politics of Fear.

When God ordered the killing witches, did he realize it would make Christians do horrific things to children?

A recent documentary, "Saving Africa's Witch Children", looks at the phenomenon of children who are blamed for catastrophes, death and famine and branded witches in some of the poorest parts of Nigeria.

The documentary features shocking stories of torture inflicted on children, including a 13-year-old who was tied up with chicken wire and starved and beaten for two weeks, and a 14-year-old girl who was burned with acid before her mother attempted to bury her alive. And much more.

The film features interviews with preachers from the churches that brand children witches or wizards and charge their parents to "exorcise" the spirits.

One preacher, who calls himself "The Bishop", said that he had killed 110 people.

Cameras filmed him as he administered a mixture of pure alcohol, a substance known as "African mercury" and his own blood to one child accused of witchcraft - to "cure" him...

So "thou shall not suffer a witch to live" isn't in the bible? Or it is, but it's not divinely inspired?

Some have said that "religion is a disease of the mind." Marx said that religion "is the opiate of the masses." "Religion," when used as a social tool, is deadly. IT has always been thus, today is no different. This misuse works most effectively where there is fear.
