Sharon asks…

Wiccan Names?

I'm writing a story and I need some Wiccan Middle/Last names for these characters...
Karmyn- she is a determined, and truthful character. she is perfect when compared to her twin brother Skylar. She has beautiful dark hair, Eyes that are usually Hazel, but change as her moods do. her skin is pale, and she resides in England, and doesn't know that she is one of the heirs to the Wiccan Throne.
Skylar- Skylar is a clumsy, odd character. He is usually overlooked when compared to his prefect sister, even though he is smarter. He is the older twin. He has medium sized dark brown hair, not as dark as his sisters though. His eyes are a very pale blue, but turn different shades as his stress does. His skin is very pale and he is a very thin looking boy, as his sister. He resides in England with his sister, and also doesn't know that he, too, is heir the Wiccan Throne.

Witch Girl answers:

Wicca is a religion (and a modern one at that), not an ethnicity, and not a made up fantasy world. I would recommend researching more about the Craft before writing the story, so that you depict it accurately and fairly. Read anything by Ray Buckland, Scott Cunningham, or Janet and Stewart Farrar.

As for "Wiccan Names" we often choose names by which we are known in the Craft, and these names usually come from mythology or from animals, plants, or stones with personal significance for each individual Wiccan -- some Pagan/Wiccan names include; Willowe, Phoenix, Amethyst, Emerald, Raven, Rowan, Crow, Wolf, Stag, Diana, Artemis, Cernnunos, and Pan. Some do prefer more Celtic sounding names, if their personal tradition is Celtic. If your characters display a particular "power" you may want to find names associated to that...

But please, research and be sure you are using the word "Wicca" correctly. Of course, in any work of fiction, you must let your muse take you where you will...

Joseph asks…

What are the names of the Wiccan god and goddess?

And is there any historical evidence of said deities being worshiped by witches? Also, why do people call them by names of different religions? For example, I've heard of people call them Isis and Osiris, when these are clearly not the Wiccan deities. Help?

Witch Girl answers:

The names of God and Goddess are as various as the different Traditions. For myself I personally feel that Lord and Lady (God and Goddess) are an appropriate term, seeing as how I feel they are beyond names. I've heard other traditions refer to them as the Mother and Father or as simply Spirit (both of them together).

There is a wide variety of historical evidence of the ancients worshiping a Lord of the hunt, or a Supreme Horned God. As well as a nurturing Mother Earth and feminine divine Goddess. The wise men and women or "Wiccans" (Wicca or Wice) were local priests or priestesses and magickal users who called the Lord and Lady divine, as do the witches of today (the word witch is a bastardized version of the word Wicca/Wice). As far as calling them by different names, some traditions view all male deities as the male half of divinity and all female deities as the female half, so I suppose in those traditions Osiris and Isis are the Lord and Lady. Still others will state that all male Gods are aspects of the Lord and all Female Goddesses are aspects of the Lady.

There have been many names through out our human history for the Lord and Lady. If one name or another makes it easier for one to connect to the aspects of the divine mystery, well...

Mark asks…

does anyone know of any Wiccan first and last names that have a beautiful meaning?

As I am considering the Wiccan faith, I would like to adopt a Wicca name. I've been searching quite a bit but can't seem to find anything, so even good websites would be useful.

Blessed Be.

Carol asks…

What are some good goth/wiccan/emo names for a male black cat?

Getting the cat tomorrow and my kids want to call it Salem, but that's a bit common! He's a fluffy black tom. Shadow the Hedgehog is totally out of the question!!

Witch Girl answers:

I have always liked "Hiss." How about Vlad or Vladimir or James or Raven or Furrball, or just let your kids pick its name. This maybe a time, to open yourself up to the Mystery and listen, to see if the Universe suggests a name...

Susan asks…

We are looking for unique and meaningful names, Wiccan/Pagan, or names meaning strength (Not Christian, please). Anyone have any ideas? Just throwing around options right now, I've been researching online forever and can't seem to find the "right" one, just seeing if anyone else has any ideas or better sites that may?
