Your Questions About Tarot Card Suits

Helen asks…

In the tarot deck of life, which card best suits you?

The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The Chariot, Strength, The Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, or The World?

Witch Girl answers:

The moon people think I am a lunatic lol

Sandra asks…

What are some good books for tarot card combinations and for begginers?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone could tell me some good books for reading tarot cards. I would like to know more about combinations of cards and things like that. Also what it means or signifies when you get a lot of one suit or alot of page court cards for instance? Thanks!!

Witch Girl answers:

I would suggest buying several books. There are many good books on Tarot - each of them will have a slightly different slant on meanings.

By using several of them, you will get more information (context) and expand your reading ability. But of course, it is the psychic message that is most important. Without receiving that, your readings will not be accurate. (See random selection of books below).

Donna asks…

what is your interpretation of the different tarot suits?

for example, if i did a celtic cross reading on myself with a lot of swords coming up, what would that mean, beyond the literal interpretation of each card? if that makes any sense...

also, what do the other suits signify?

Witch Girl answers:

The Suit of Swords is representative of the element of Air. Swords are associated with action, change, force, power, oppression, ambition, courage and conflict. Action can be both constructive and/or destructive, sometimes resulting in violence. This suit can also mean hatred, battle, and enemies, and of all the suits, this one is considered to be the most powerful and dangerous.

The Suit of Swords deals with the mental level of consciousness that is centred around the mind and the intellect. Swords mirror the quality of mind present in your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. Swords themselves are double-edged and in this way the Suit of Swords symbolizes the fine balance between intellect and power and how these two elements can be used for good or evil. As such, the Swords must be balanced by spirit (Wands) and feeling (Cups).

The negative aspects of the Suit of Swords (i.e. When the Swords cards appear reversed) include anger, guilt, harsh judgement, a lack of compassion and verbal and mental abuse.

Swords represent the Air signs of Aquarius, Libra and Gemini. Swords people (as typically seen in the Court Cards) are intelligent, thoughtful, rational, logical and excellent communicators. They are rational beings and like to experience the world by understanding and analyzing what is occurring around them. On the flipside, Swords people can be ruthless, domineering, confrontational and rigid.

When referring to timing in a Tarot reading, the Suit of Swords traditionally represents Winter or Spring, or months. In a deck of playing cards, Swords corresponds to Spades.

Should a Tarot reading be predominantly Swords cards, then you can be sure that the client is seeking solutions to what are primarily mental struggles, conflict and arguments, and decisions which must be made. Also, there could be many arguments or even violence at present. While Swords can carry with them many negative or very strong, forceful messages, Swords serve also as a warning to be more cautious of what is occurring around you.

John asks…

Here is a question for all you tarot card fanatics!?

A Tarot deck has 78 cards, 14 in each of the four Minor Arcana (or suits) and 22 in the Major Arcana. How many Tarot cards must be drawn to guarantee that you have at least 5 cards of the same Arcana (Major or Minor)?

Witch Girl answers:

That is a mathematical question in the statistics or set theory arena, I believe, and for someone else to answer.

I can read the cards, but I do not want to play games with them. When you shuffle the entire deck together and draw for a spread, there's no guarantee you'll get even one of the major arcanum, let alone 5 or you could draw 15, it all depends what message Spirit has for you.
